BOOK REVIEW—FLUFFY’S REVOLUTION

Ted Myers creates a dystopian world where Fluffy’s Revolution takes place. This world contains animals with Genetically Altered Brains (GABs) who are in extreme danger. These GAB animals are extremely smart, possess the ability to communicate, although not verbally, and can use telekinesis.

The Triumvirate has the public in fear of all GAB animals and calls for all non-human owned GABs to be exterminated. However, not all people are in support of this policy, deemed loyal activists, and they fight for and with them.

Here we meet Fluffy, a GAB cat that lives with Professor James Riordan, who she affectionately calls Dad. Fluffy is extremely smart, well educated, and is about to change her comfortable life.

Although close to the Professor, she misses her brother, Jack who was not adopted by the professor. She can feel him calling to her, and she believes he is in danger. Fluffy makes a tough decision to leave the safety of her home with the Professor to look for Jack and to join the resistance.

Fluffy gets more than she expected when she sets out to find Jack and join the resistance. She encounters problems bigger than GAB extermination, one so big that it endangers the Earth’s existence. Fluffy and the other GAB animals work with the human loyal activists in an attempt to avert the impending doom.

Will they be successful? Will Fluffy find her brother?

Myers’ plot is fast paced, and his characters sell the story. Even with all that is going on, the tone of the book remains light, and Myers even adds a touch of humor. His ability to create friendships, love, and acceptance among the humans and GABs keeps the reader turning pages.

Fluffy’s Revolution introduced several characters used to advance the plot, but the reader never gets to know much about them. The number of characters can be confusing and force the reader go back to get a better understanding of the point of view. Myers also had fast transitions between scenes that can be jarring at times, but as you read on, they become easier to understand.

If you enjoy sci-fi, suspense, and a touch of humor, Fluffy’s Revolution is a must read.

The fate of the world rests on the haunches of one small cat.

It’s 2135. Fluffy is a super-intelligent GAB (Genetically Altered Brain) cat. Like many dogs, cats, mice, and the occasional pig, her brain is the product of genetic tinkering by humans that started more than a century ago. With their powers of telekinesis, the animals can manipulate physical objects without being able to grasp them. They can speak to each other telepathically without audible voices. Now, people have begun to fear them and to systematically capture and exterminate them. Fluffy leaves the safety of her home to look for her lost brother and joins a band of animal revolutionaries. After a series of brushes with death, Fluffy and her friends find a secret university for GAB animals. There, they work with enlightened humans to save Earth from certain destruction.
