DESTINY

“Do you see that? Isn’t it beautiful the way the moon shines though it?” Emme asked Ben.

“Yeah, I see that dumb cow weather vane. Ain’t nothin’ special ‘bout it,” Ben replied.

Emme couldn’t believe it. Were they looking at the same thing? Did she have the gift? Is that why she saw it and he didn’t? “I guess you’re right. I just thought it looked cool against the stars.”

He smiled at her. “That’s why I love ya. You see beauty in everythin’.” He squeezed her hand and gave her a quick peck on the cheek.

She hugged him. “Love you too.”

They walked through the field back to his old truck. “Gotta get you home. Got an early day tomorrow.”

After he dropped her off and she made sure he was gone, Emme got in her car and drove back to the farm. She planned to check out the barn.

She looked up at the weather vane. Still the same. A witch’s hat in the square. Emme yanked the barn door open and went inside. Her jaw dropped.

“Esmaralda Gossling. Welcome. your destiny awaits you.”
